Reed: Congress Must Act to Block Interest Rate Hikes on Student Loans
U.S. Senator Jack Reed urges his colleagues to support his legislation to prevent interest rate hikes on college loans. Unless Congress acts, subsidized Stafford student loan interest rates will double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent on July 1, 2012, saddling student borrowers with an additional $6.3 billion in interest payments.

Reed Calls on Colleagues to Bank on Students, Support College Loan Refinancing Bill
Senator Reed spoke on the Senate floor June 10th to urge his colleagues to support the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act.
Among other critical provisions, the bill aims to ease the growing burden of student debt on middle class families by allowing borrowers to refinance their student loans, an opportunity available for most other types of loans. The bill is expected to benefit more than 88,000 Rhode Islanders.
